LACT Units - An overview

The Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) unit is the single most important piece of equipment in the oilfield. Since each LACT unit is designed for the automatic transfer of ownership of crude or condensate, each skid must be built using the highest quality components. Valin SMS uses instrumentation made by Micro Motion, Rosemount, and Drexelbrook on their LACT units.

There are two types of LACT units. Wet LACTs, designed to measure crude with a high percentage of water. Typically, these are used for metering or custody transfer within the producing company. Dry LACTs are usually used when measuring crude entering or leaving a pipeline. Valin has nearly sixty years of experience building both Wet and Dry LACT units.

Valin fabricates their LACT units at their Bakersfield office and in their Farmington, New Mexico facility. This ensures that the highest quality product for our customers. We encourage our customers to witness the fabrication process. All LACT units are built to code, API Standards, and hydrotested before leaving the facilities.
